The awards are presented to physicians who are within their first to third year of a full-time, primary faculty appointment in a clinical department at an academic medical institution; Rabinowits will receive a three year grant totaling $200,000.

The grant will officially be awarded at ASCO’s annual meeting which will take place June 4-8 in Chicago. Rabinowits is one of 14 physicians who will receive the award. His work will explore the identification of molecular markers for screening and early diagnosis of head and neck cancers.

“Most head and neck cancers are diagnosed in the later stages where cure becomes a challenge and treatment brings significant toxicity,” Rabinowits said. “Our work aims to identify these tumors at an earlier stage with the goal of simplifying treatment and increasing the chance of cure.”

Rabinowits completed an internal medicine residency at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., and a fellowship in hematology/ oncology at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, where he served as chief fellow.
