Chagpar named to fellowship promoting women leaders in academic medicine
University of Louisville surgical oncologist Anees Chagpar, M.D., has been selected for a fellowship in the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program for Women at Drexel University.
Dr. Chagpar, director of the multidisciplinary breast cancer program at UofL’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center, will join 52 others fellows from across the nation for the year-long program, which helps prepare senior women faculty for leadership posts at academic health centers.
As an ELAM fellow, Dr. Chagpar will receive extensive training in executive management and institutional leadership, with a focus on strategic finance, organizational dynamics, and personal and professional effectiveness.
ELAM fellows also will have the opportunity to gain a broader and deeper knowledge of the challenges facing academic health centers through meetings with national leaders in the field, interactions with their peers in the program, and interviews with a wide range of senior officers at their own institutions.
About 20 percent of the program’s 569 graduates currently serve at the highest levels of academic leadership across the nation, from associate dean through university president.
