Robert Bolli, M.D., professor of medicine at the University of Louisville, has been named editor-in-chief of Circulation Research: Journal of the American Heart Association.

Bolli, chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and director of the Institute of Molecular Cardiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, assumed the post concurrent with the July 31 issue.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as editor-in-chief of this prestigious and critically important scientific journal,” Bolli said. “In an era of incredibly rapid progress in cardiovascular medicine, the scientific discoveries leading to the next generation of clinical advances will appear first in the pages of Circulation Research.”

The official bi-weekly journal of the American Heart Association's Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences, Circulation Research is devoted to new basic science research from all disciplines related to cardiac and vascular biology and cardiovascular disease. The journal presents the most significant research from many fields, including cellular biology, molecular biology and molecular genetics, as well as biochemistry, biophysics, pathology, physiology and pharmacology.

Donna Arnett, Ph.D., chair of the American Heart Association's Scientific Publishing Committee, said the pace of new discoveries in cardiology makes the appointment of a new journal editor a noteworthy event. “We recognize the service and achievement of Dr. Eduardo Marban, outgoing editor-in-chief, and we are certain that Dr. Bolli and his team will continue to build on the journal's long history of scientific excellence,” she added.
