Marcus F. Stoddard, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.H.A.

Professor of Medicine
Division of Cardiovascular Medicine
University of Louisville School of Medicine
Director, Clinical Cardiology UofL
Dr. Stoddard is a nationally recognized investigator in the area of Echocardiography. He has published over 200 manuscripts and abstracts in leading cardiology journals. His areas of research include determinants of thrombus formation and embolization in atrial fibrillation, determinants of left atrial appendage function, echocardiographic assessment of diastolic function, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) applications (aortic and mitral stenosis, pharmacologic stress testing and flow reserve) and stress echocardiography. He has been the recipient of several AHA grant awards. He has served on the steering committee of multicenter trials (e.g., The Assessment of Cardioversion Utilizing Transesophageal Echocardiography-ACUTE). He is the principal investigator in several multicenter trials, including Warfarin versus Aspirin in Reduced Ejection Fraction (WARCEF), and ARISTOTLE. He has served on the editorial board of the American Heart Journal and presently is a journal reviewer for several prestigious journals, such as Circulation, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the American Journal of Cardiology, the American Heart Journal, Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, Chest and Mayo Clinic Proceedings. He is recognized nationally for his teaching skills and instructs annual echocardiographic and TEE courses in conjunction with the ACCC the AHA, and the American Society of Echocardiography. He is the Chair of the National Board of Echocardiography Committee for the Echocardiographic Board Examination. He has served on numerous committees of the American Heart Association and American Society of Echocardiography.
