Medical and Dental Students held a Convocation of Thanks to honor the individuals who donated their bodies to the University to further health sciences education and research. Their generous, unique gift to mankind which benefits current and future generations was honored through music, personal reflection and a candlelit vigil. The ceremony was held on April 10, 2008 at 6:00 pm in the Health Sciences Center Auditorium.
The planning committee consisted of medical students Mr. Joseph Blackmon and Ms. Sowmya Srinivasan, dental student, Mr. Jay Burton, and audiology student, Mr. Andrew Schuette. Dr. Roisen made the opening remarks followed by the musical and vocal ta
lents of various students. Dr. Wayne Lambert, Course Director for Advanced Head and Neck Anatomy and Summer Medical and Dental Gross Anatomy, recited an adaptation of the poem by Richard Gilbert entitled, “We cannot but be grateful”. Dr. Raymond Ho, Course Director for Dental Gross Anatomy, made the closing remarks and lit the first candle. The auditorium was alight with the candlelight of almost 200 candles, as students, faculty, staff, and the families of those who bequeathed their body, solemnly exited into the foyer for the reception. The event was free and open to all those with an interest.
