Thank you for your interest in the Visiting Student Program at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine. The School of Medicine receives many requests and inquires for clinical rotations. We strive to maintain a rich diverse international visiting student program and hold multiple affiliations with institutions globally. Although we cannot guarantee placement, please know that we will do all we can to support your clinical request should we be able to approve your application and match your dates with an open elective.

The University of Louisville accepts a limited number of foreign medical students into clinical electives during each academic year to complete an educational, engaging, challenging, and learning experience in your medical education.

The University of Louisville School of Medicine uses OVISTA (Online Visiting International Student Applications) to process all International visiting student applications. OVISTA is a step-by-step online submission program that allows students to upload required documents in a real-time application process.

All approved students attending are encouraged to use a B1 VISA for travel purposes, however, we will process a J1 VISA at your request. All approved students will receive a Letter of Acceptance that can be used in the VISA application process. Students should arrive at least 48 hours prior to their scheduled rotation date. Transportation from the airport to the Health Science Center campus is not provided.

When to Apply

Applications MUST be submitted a minimum of six - eight months in advance of your requested elective date to allow for processing and travel arrangements. Applications for extended clinical electives upon arrival will not be processed.

How to Apply

Our application process for International students is now an online submission program called OVISTA and can be found at http://medstudentaffairs.fluidreview.com. There is a one-time application fee of $50 that will be assessed for each application submitted. This fee helps us maintain a "tuition free" clinical elective program. The fee is non-refundable and is due online in OVISTA prior to processing your application.

Eligibility

You must be in your final year of medical school when you arrive for your elective. Electives are four-weeks in duration with a maximum of eight-weeks unless otherwise approved by the Office of Medical Student Affairs. Applications are accepted year-round except for the month of June. Due to the amount of applications and inquires received each year, we have a nomination program in place at most affiliated institutions. Please review the Affiliated Institution link to see if your school has partnered with the University of Louisville. Any application that is submitted from non-affiliated institutions will not be reviewed unless prior approval was received by the Medical Student Affairs Office prior to application.

We look forward to processing your application and having you as a guest student. Please email us at medstuaf@louisville.edu with any questions regarding our clinical elective program or the application process.
