First Louisville baby born in 2014 delivered at Center for Women & Infants

Baby Natalia was the first baby born in Louisville in 2014.

A baby girl delivered at the Center for Women & Infants rang in the New Year as the first baby born in Louisville in 2014.

Mother Lorna Etse and father Stenson Silbanuz of Louisville welcomed daughter Natalia at 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 1, five days before her due date.

Stenson wasn’t surprised by the early arrival: The couple’s other two children – sons Stainer, now age 9, and Lorsten, age 6 – each arrived five days early as well.

Within minutes of the birth, Lorna began Kangaroo Care – lying skin-to-skin with Natalia to promote bonding and to de-stress the baby.

To commemorate the first birth of 2014, CWI staff provided the parents with a gift basket containing items specially selected for baby, Mom and Dad. Included in the basket was a CWI “designer” stocking cap that also was provided to all babies born at the CWI on New Year’s Day.

Natalia’s first day was spent before the cameras as all four Louisville television news operations visited Lorna’s room at the CWI to film interviews with the family. To see the news stories, click on these links: WAVE, WDRB, WHAS and WLKY.
