Office of Medical Student Financial Aid Timeline

October - December

  • Review the Financial Literacy 101 section on the School of Medicine Financial Aid website. These resources are provided by the AAMC F.I.R.S.T. (Financial Information, Resources, Services & Tools).
  • Late November - Bursar's Office - Spring Semester billing (current students)

January

  • To be considered for federal student aid and complete the FAFSA, you must apply for U.S. Department of Education FAFSA P.I.N. at www.studentloans.gov.
  • File the free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentloans.gov as soon as possible after January 1 - using prior year income information. If you filed taxes electronically with the IRS, use the IRS Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA.
  • Parent information is not required on your form.
  • Be sure you list University of Louisville's code (001999) on your FAFSA as a college choice.

February (3rd Saturday)

  • ULSOM Pre-Orientation for admitted students.

March 15

  • Priority date for receipt of all requested Financial Aid forms and FAFSA; however, applications can still be submitted at time of admission and will also be processed all academic year if aid is needed after the start of school.

April - May

  • Tuition and Cost of Attendance (COA) set

Early June

  • Financial Aid notification (FAN) is emailed to student.
  • Accept, decline and reduce aid.
  • All new student borrowers sign Master Promissory Notes (MPN) for loans.
  • All new student borrowers complete on-line entrance counseling.

July

  • Bursar's Office - Fall semester billing
  • Orientation / Financial Aid Presentation
  • All new UofL students must activate HigherOne Card when received (prior UofL students will not receive a new Higher One Card).

August

  • MS1 and MS2 start classes
