Faculty Affairs Orientation
This informative meeting gives new faculty members the opportunity to learn about appointments, promotion, tenure and/or renewal of contracts, salary increases, research funding and other opportunities through the School of Medicine.
The School of Medicine’s mentoring program is a one-year program whereby a new faculty member (protege) is matched with a mentor that has similar interests. The mentors and protege’s meet four times throughout the year. An initial training is offered on effective mentoring topics of interest to new faculty, such as: starting a research career; understanding the promotion and tenure process; balancing professional and home responsibilities; and balancing clinical and research responsibilities. The whole group of mentors and protege’s meet one time during the year to share their experiences. At the end of the year, the protege’s evaluate the program. New faculty have the opportunity to sign up for the mentoring program shortly after they arrive.
