Morbidly obese patients are a special challenge for anesthesiologists due to their unique pathophysiology. Knowledge and diagnosis of impaired physiology is critical to provide safe anesthesia and perioperative care. Anesthesia and perioperative care have an impact on short term and long term outcomes. Enhanced recovery after bariatric surgery (ERABS) has become a rising concept. This course allows experts to share their knowledge about pathophysiology and diagnostics with practicing anesthesiologists. New insights into the development of the latest concept of ERABS will enhance the understanding to provide safe perioperative management of the morbidly obese patient.
