Application Process

Congratulations on taking the first step to specializing your medical education.

There are two application cycles for the Distinction Track Program. Applications for tracks in Business & Leadership (DIBL), Global & Public Health (DIGPH), Health Equity & Medical Justice (DIHEMJ), Medical Education (DIME), and Urban Primary Care (DIUPC) are accepted in the spring semester of the M1 year, Application for the track in Research (DIR) are accepted in the summer between the M1 and M2 years.

What You Need to Know

  • You MUST meet the academic stand requirements detailed in SOM Policy 4.8.
  • For M1 students applying to DIBL, DIGPH, DIHEMJ, DIME, or DIUPC, DT applicants, the requirement is: Successful passing of first semester M1 courses on first attempt with a 75% or greater average on high stakes assessments. 
  • For M1 students applying to DIBL, DIGPH,  DIHEMJ, or DIME, or DIUPC, you CAN apply to more than one track, but if you are accepted to more than one track you must choose ONE. No student can be enrolled in more than one track.

Please fill out and submit your application via the links below. If you plan to apply to multiple tracks, you must submit a separate form specific to each track.

DIBL, DIGPH, DIHEMJ, DIME, & DIUPC Tracks

Application timeline

  • Applications open: Jan. 12, 2024
  • Applications due: Feb. 4, 2024, 12 midnight
  • ***Applications for DIHEMJ extended  to Feb. 23***
  • Review/Interviews: Feb. 7-March 7, 2024
  • Selections announced: March  11, 2024
  • Students accept by: March 18, 2024

Applications for Distinction in Research Track (DIR)

The Research track accepts applications during the summer between the M1 and M2 year, while students are participating in the Summer Scholar Research Program (SSRP) or similar activity. Contact Anne Noe at anne.noe@louisville.edu for additional information about DIR. Contact Emily Noonan with questions about the application platform or technical problems.
