Letter from the Chair

Welcome to the University of Louisville Department of Radiology. The department is approaching close to a hundred years of its formation and is a vibrant academic medical department meeting the diagnostic imaging and interventional radiological needs of our patients and communities.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Department of Radiology is to provide excellence in clinical imaging, education, and research in an inclusive and welcoming environment. We also strive to build bridges between our patients, referring physicians and the local communities that we serve.

VISION STATEMENT and GOALS

We will provide our patients with high quality state of the art diagnostic and interventional radiology services and train the next generation of practitioners in a comprehensive and wholistic manner.
Our faculty will also engage in advancing the field through cutting edge research in basic and clinical radiology.

Our Department provides radiological services for the University of Louisville Hospital, the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, Jewish Hospital and other sites related to the recently acquired KentuckyOne health system. These hospitals have state-of-the-art equipment and are committed to expert care. The centers together produce over 400,000 studies annually and provide a wide variety of clinical exposure related to our Level 1 trauma center (the first trauma care center in the nation dating back to 1911), a comprehensive cancer center (Brown Cancer center) and the only organ transplant center in the city.

We are a highly specialized department with faculty dedicated to unique clinical foci who are also teaching residents and medical students the constantly evolving field of radiology. Faculty and residents work together with other medical specialties in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

I am honored to lead and represent this exceptional group of faculty, trainees, and staff here at UofL and encourage you to explore our web pages and to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding the department. I can be reached at or at (502) 852-5875.

Sincerely,

Sohail Contractor, M.D. FSIR
