Dr. Ruth received her undergraduate and medical degree from the University of South Carolina.  She completed her psychiatric residency training at the University of Louisville and received additional training in Addictions Psychiatry at the University of Louisville, where she served on the University of Louisville Department of Psychiatry's Resident Education Committee (2009 - 2011).  Dr. Ruth is board certified in Addiction Psychiatry and General Psychiatry.

Dr. Ruth has had several scholarly presentations, including "More than the Drive to Survive: Food Addiction - An Overview", "An Overview of Bipolar Treatment Methods", "HIV Prevention", and "Understanding Ectopic Pregnancy".  She is currently the medical student didactic lecturer on Pharmacologic Treatment of Addiction.  She also volunteers as a current member of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry, and previously volunteered at Lou Holtz Winter Shelter, (2002 - 2005), was a volunteer Assistant Zoo Keeper at the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens in Columbia, SC (2000 - 2001), was a Frequent Donor Member of the American Red Cross (1999 - 2007), served as a Peer Partner at the Seminole Community College in Sanford, FL (1997 - 1998), and was a Caretaker and Docent at the Audubon Birds of Prey Sociaty in Maitland, FL (1995 - 1998).

Dr. Ruth's clinical activities include general adult psychiatry, Addiction psychiatry, Group Psychotherapy, and Holistic Medicine.  Her office is located in the University of Louisville HealthCare Outpatient Center, as 401 E Chestnut (suit 610) in Louisville, KY.  She is a member of The American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, American Group Psychiatric Association, and the Kentucky Psychiatric Medical Association.
