Dr. Chopra received his Bachelor's Degree in 1978 at the University of Bombay Institute of Science in Mumbai, India.  He received his M.B.B.S. in 1983 from Armed Forces Medical College ad the University of Pune in Pune, India.  In 1988, he received his Medical Degree from Topiwala National Medical College, University of Bombaby (Mumbai, India) and completed his residency in 2002 at the University of Louisville, Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Chopra is Board Certified in Kentucky (since 1998) and is a Diplomate, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  He has also been a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Kentucky Psychiatric Association, and Greater Louisville Medical Society.

Dr. Chopra has won many awards, including Kentucky Colonel, which is the highest civilian award given by the Governor of Kentucky, in 2011.  In 2009, he received the Dr. Henry P. and M. Paige Durkee Laughlin Foundation Merit Award.  He was Resident of the Year in 2002, Outstanding Resident in Community Psychiatry in 2001, the recipient of the Harvey R. St. Clair Award for Psychodynamics in 2001, and the recipient of the Pfizer Inpatient Psychiatry Award in 2000 (as a 2nd-year resident).
