How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the University of Louisville Pediatric Residency Program. Each year, we accept 24 categorical pediatric residents, 1-2 pediatric neurology residents and 5 med/peds residents. We accept residency applications at the PGY-1 level only. Applicants must receive their medical degree and successfully pass USMLE Parts I and II and the Clinical Skills exam by the start of training.

Application Packet

We accept applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The following information must be included in your application to be considered complete. Applications that do not include this information will not be considered.

  1. ERAS Common Application Form*
  2. CV
  3. Personal Statement
  4. Dean’s Letter
  5. 3 letters of recommendation (minimum)
  6. Medical School Transcript
  7. USMLE/COMLEX Step I Score Report
  8. USMLE/COMLEX Step 2 Score Report (when available)
  9. USMLE/COMLEX Step 2 CS Score Report (when available)
  10. Recent Photograph (requested, not required)

Application Deadline

Applications are accepted September 15 – November 15 each year. All materials must be received by November 15 to be considered complete.

Additional Application Information

  • We do not have minimum board score requirements though we do have a very competitive program and higher scores can enhance your application as a whole.
  • Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the past 3 years.
  • Second looks will be offered on two pre-selected days in January. The days may be arranged to allow you to see the areas of most interest to you, e.g. rounding on the wards, shadowing in clinic etc. You will also have an opportunity to meet with the Program Director and have lunch with a couple of residents. Second looks are provided at the candidate's expense.
