Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Resident Graduation, June 14, 2013
The University of Louisville's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) program held its resident graduation on June 14, 2013. One of the graduates, Catherine Schuster, MD, accepted a one year Pediatric Rehabilitation Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. The other graduate, John "J.T." Ruxer, D.O., accepted a one year Pain Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Louisville.
The keynote speaker was Barry Smith, MD, an Associate Professor and the Interim Chair for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Smith was the first resident in the University of Louisville's PM&R program, which started in 1973 and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2013. Dr. Smith received the Distinguished Alumni Award at this year's ceremony.
Another award winner was Darryl Kaelin, MD, the Chief of UofL's PM&R program and its Residency Director. Dr. Kaelin received the Best Faculty Teacher Award. PM&R resident Kiran Pandit, MD, won the Resident Research Award.
