The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine provides thorough, comprehensive care. Our approach is patient-centered and multidisciplinary. With a team of neurosurgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, cutting-edge researchers, and nurses, our department is uniquely situated to provide world-class care and expertise for our patients.

We favor a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Alongside specialists in neurology, otolaryngology, urology, physiatry, oncology, and radiation medicine, we use shared expertise and the latest research to create individualized treatment plans. Multidisciplinary medicine is an effective approach to patient care that allows for the treatment of the whole patient. For example, patients referred to our department with spinal cord injuries are seen at the Spinal Cord Medicine Clinic where they are evaluated in one location by the appropriate specialists - neurosurgeon, neurologist, physiatrist, urologist, and/or radiologist - to provide comprehensive care.

The Department of Neurological Surgery is open to all eligible faculty, staff, and students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery: Maximum Patient Care

Our neurosurgeons are experts in brain and spine care, with training in such areas as cerebrovascular disease, brain and spine tumors, traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, and peripheral nerve disorders. We provide world-class surgical expertise in the type of caring environment that patients deserve.

Patients will experience less pain, less blood loss, and decreased hospital and recovery time thanks to our minimally invasive surgical techniques. We are committed to helping people return more quickly to happy, productive lives.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation: Restoring Bodies, Removing Barriers, Rebuilding Lives

Our physiatrists are dedicated to optimizing patient healing and quality of life by delivering the most advanced techniques. Many conditions are treatable through physical medicine and rehabilitation and our department provides care for neurological disorders, cerebral disorders, trauma, pediatrics, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Patients will experience restored function with hope and dignity. They will be assisted on their journey through exceptional clinical care, research, and education using evidence-based medicine, professionalism, and accountability.

Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center

Our research team in the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center (KSCIRC) works to develop successful spinal cord repair strategies in the laboratory that can be taken to the clinic in a timely and responsible fashion. KSCIRC is in a unique position to conduct research that, through close association with clinical colleagues in the neurosurgery and PM&R specialties, can lead to effective treatments for spinal cord injury.
