Ashley receiving "Excellence In Research" award

Ashley Richards, 2nd year M&I PhD student in the lab of Dr. Yousef Abu Kwaik recently learned that she is the recipient of a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF).  Ashley was one of 2,000 awarded an NSF fellowship out of more than 14,000 applications that NSF received for the 2014 competition. Her selection was based on her outstanding accomplishments and abilities and her potential to contribute to science. As a NSF Fellow, she will receive a three-year annual stipend of $32,000.

This makes Ashley Richards the first recipient of M&I chairman Dr. Nejat Egilmez's new "Excellence in Research" award. She will be receiving $1,000 as recognition for successfully competing for a national fellowship.
