Collaborative application between OIID and M&I leads to $11.2M NIH COBRE award

Departments of Oral Immunology & Infectious Disease and Microbiology & Immunology successfully competed for an NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) grant award with a proposal entitled “Functional Microbiomics, Inflammation and Pathogenicity”.  This P20 program grant application was led by Dr. Rich Lamont (PD/PI), Chair of OIID with Dr. Huang-Ge Zhang (Co-PI) and Dr. Haribabu Bodduluri (Core PI) from M&I as co-applicants.

The center grant, which represents a collaboration between the Schools of Dentistry and Medicine, starts in March 2018 and will initially support the research programs of 5 junior faculty including Drs. Huizhi Wang (OIID), Jill Steinbach (Bioengineering), Venkatakrishna Jala (M&I), Matt Lawrenz (M&I) and Jonathan Warawa (M&I).  The total costs exceed $11.2 million over 5 years.
