HOUSESTAFF STIPENDS

  • PGY-1: $51,219

  • PGY-2: $52,311

  • PGY-3: $53,769

VACATION

  • Four weeks of vacation (two 2-week blocks) is given to all housestaff. We also provide an extra five day break during the winter holidays (PGY-1/3) or Thanksgiving (PGY-2).

PERSONAL DAYS

  • Each resident gets four personal days per year to use at their discretion during non-call months. These may be used for illness, interviews, etc.

BOOKSTORE

LICENSURE

  • Initial licensure fees are paid by the university and renewal licensure fees are paid by the department.

EDUCATIONAL ALLOWANCES

  • All first-year residents receive MedStudy as well as an electronic subscription to MKSAP 16. Each resident may use up to $500 to travel to an educational conference in order to present original research or a poster.

MEALS

  • On call meals are provided at both University of Louisville Hospital and Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Free lunch is available in the physicians’ lounge at Jewish Hospital.

TRANSPORTATION

  • All University of Louisville students, staff, and faculty members may present their Cardinal Cards to ride free on TARC (Transit Authority of the River City) buses.

INSURANCE

  • The University offers a complete package of insurance coverage for our residents and their families, including health, dental, vision, prescription, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D), Supplemental Life, Short Term Disability and Long Term Care. Detailed plan information can be found on the University of Louisville Human Resources site.

RETIREMENT

  • Residents are considered "eligible employees" and may contribute monies to any of U of L's retirement plans.

WORKER'S COMPENSATION

  • All house staff are covered under the Kentucky Worker's Compensation statutes for injuries incurred while engaged in regularly assigned duties.

MALPRACTICE

  • Professional liability insurance is provided by the University of Louisville or by affiliated hospitals through contract agreement.

PREVENTATIVE HEALTH

  • Hepatitis B immunization, an annual TB skin test, and flu shots are required and furnished free of charge to all residents.
