Environmental Medicine Grand Rounds

Researchers will share their work to understand the relationships between the environment and human health at the Environmental Medicine Grand Rounds.

About Environmental Medicine Grand Rounds

The AACME accredited Environmental Medicine Grand Rounds (EMGR) series is the first of its kind to be established here at the University of Louisville and its activities address a topic that has been largely omitted in the continuum of US medical education. The environment in which each of us carry out our daily lives (including the work environment) is a critical factor for both health and disease. There is clear evidence that the health effects of environmental agents and environmental degradation are serious, whether they are direct or indirect. And while the precise impact of environmental illness and injury is virtually impossible to compute—partly because adequate surveillance mechanisms do not exist and environmentally related effects on human physiology and disease often goes unrecognized. There is considerable evidence of a relationship between environmental exposure and disease to justify moving from concern to action. This series is that action—functioning as a platform to engage a network of professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, scientists, etc.) to discover priority needs and facilitate a re-evaluation of current standard operating procedures in clinical practice, as well as identify novel gaps in knowledge that require additional basic research focus/efforts.
