Tonia D. Thomas serves as the program director and advisor for this program. She is a Louisville native and a graduate of the University of Louisville with a B.S. in Sociology. She has worked for the University of Louisville School of Medicine since March 1994. Her previous positions have been in the Medical School Office of Admissions (1994-1996) and the Office for Minority and Rural Affairs (1996-2008). She has coordinated several enrichment programs for high school - college students:
- The Health Professions Partnership Program Initiative (HPPI), a grant program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
- The Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP) Pre-college Summer Workshop, for entering college freshmen interested in medicine and dentistry
- The MCAT-DAT Review Summer Workshop, preparing pre-med/dental students for their entrance exams and applying to professional school.
- She served as the founding advisor and later as a co-advisor for the Multi-cultural Association of Pre-medical Students, MAPS, (formerly the Minority Association of Pre-medical Students) from 1999-2010.
Tonia is affiliated with both campuses, Belknap and the Health Sciences Center, and has worked collaboratively with staff, faculty and administrators over the years. She is committed to preparing premedical students for the competitive medical school application process and helping them to successfully matriculate into medical school.
