Research Spotlight

 

Bailey LaPaugh was chosen by the University of Louisville School of Medicine as the Student Spotlight for June 2023! Bailey was nominated by Professor Shae Morgan for her excellent work in the research lab and her dedication to learning in class.

 Bailey recently presented her research on the development of a clinical test of auditory emotion recognition at a national meeting of the Acoustical Society of America. "I chose the University of Louisville Graduate School to obtain my clinical doctorate degree because I was very impressed by how much clinical experience UofL provides to it's students. We start observing and seeing patients on the first day of graduate school."

Research Awards

 

      KSHA 2024

Zach Mattingly (center) was awarded 3rd Place in Student Poster Presentation at KSHA 2024. Zach presented his capstone project, "The Importance of Remote Microphone Transparency Measurements." He was joined by Kaylee Skipper (left) and  Emily Shupe (right), who also presented their capstone projects during the KSHA 2024 Poster Presentations. Great job, everyone!

Tori Bohrer, Hailea Harper, and David Yeager presented at the American Auditory Society (AAS) Conference in 2022 in Scottsdale, AZ. Their poster, "Effects of Acoustic Leaks and Ear-Tip Loosening on Absorbance Measurements" was a recipient of the mentored student research poster award.

Beth Rosen (class of 2021) won 1st place at the Kentucky Academy of Audiology Conference in 2019 for her research poster titled "Does Attitude Change About Hearing Protection Evoke Behavior Change in Marching Band Members".

Rachel Berry (class of 2021) won 3rd place at the Kentucky Academy of Audiology Conference in 2019 for her research poster entitled "Test of emotion recognition: Accuracy and number of test items".

Raquel Heacock (class of 2018) won 1st place at the Kentucky Academy of Audiology Conference in 2017 for her research poster titled "Adult-Children's Perspectives on Their Role in Their Parent's Hearing Healthcare Processes".


Samantha Munzer (class of 2018) won the James and Susan Jerger Award for Excellence in Student Research at AudiologyNOW! 2017 for her research poster titled, "Neural Correlates of Phonetic Categorization in Adult Cochlear Implant Listeners".


Jessica Minnick (class of 2018) won 3rd place at the Kentucky Speech-Language-Hearing Association Conference in 2017 for her research poster titled, "Anxiety, Depressive Symptoms, and Spatial Perception in Head and Neck Cancer Patients".


Grace Nance (class of 2017) won the James and Susan Jerger Award for Excellence in Student Research at AudiologyNOW! 2016 for her research poster titled, "Development of an iPad Based Dichotic Listening Test for Children".


Amanda Pigeon (class of 2017) won 1st place in the Neuroanatomy Research category at AudiologyNOW! 2016 for her research poster titled, "An Electrophysiologic Measure of Attention Switching"


Student Honors

University of Louisville Audiology Student Spirit Award
The Student Spirit Award is awarded to one AuD student who has contributed the most to the overall quality of the program in the past year. This includes contributions in the areas of most improved student life, program enhancement, outreach, leadership, quality patient care or the furtherance of the mission of the Doctor of Audiology program and the profession of Audiology.
