Managing Conflict in Relationships

Conflict on the job is a universal phenomenon and, if left unchecked, can have a destructive effect on productivity, teamwork and morale. More importantly, the manner in which conflict is addressed significantly influences whether the outcome is a constructive resolution or a continuing dispute. Dispelling the fear and discomfort people often feel when observing or being part of a conflict, this workshop focuses on ways to turn conflict into productive energy and navigate conflict effectively.

 

 Making Full Use of Microsoft Outlook Tools

For over two decades Microsoft Outlook has been adopted by the professional world as the primary email client yet much of the world underutilizes the software. It is not simply an email client but a powerful information manager. Understanding how to navigate the software efficiently and how to appropriately organize your information is crucial to productivity. Attendees of this session will learn how to work faster, use modern email etiquette, learn calendar tips and tricks, organize information according to standards, and gain a foundational knowledge of the universities client-server relationship and how that relationship should influence their Outlook workflow.

Coping Skills in Stressful Life Changes

Life changes are a normal part of life, but it can be challenging to manage the stress that can come with them without knowledge of healthy ways to cope. This presentation will include information about the definition of “stress,” how stressful events and life changes can impact our overall well-being, and examples of adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies.  Discussion of useful strategies will include self-care, examining and changing the way we think about life changes, knowing how and when to reach out for help, and meditation/mindfulness.

 

Caring for an Elderly Parent

As our population ages we are finding that either you have been a caregiver, are currently a caregiver, will be a caregiver or will need a caregiver to care for you. Caregiving is quickly becoming the new normal, especially when it applies to our aging parents. This presentation will explore the issues related to caring for an aging parent. We will discuss how to begin the “caring” conversation with your parents, what to listen for when talking to aging parents, long distance caregiving, parent-child role reversal, handling decision-making, sibling caregiving issues, legal issues and caregiver self-care. Participants will learn that caring for an aging parent can be a source of deep satisfaction for both the caregiver and parent and many times heal past wounds.

Learn to Do Body Scan, Mindfulness

Our experiences are somatic. Every thought, every emotion, every word, every action are echoed by sensations in our physical body. Body Scanning provides the tools for us to recognize our reactions and identify ways to mitigate the impact of triggers while increasing our ability to respond mindfully. Through a mindful somatic reading, we gain a greater understanding of what is occurring in the intangible parts of our self: mind, spirit, and heart [emotion]. Participants learn and practice the three step process of Body Scanning: anchor, listen, respond.

 

Surviving Toddlerhood:  How to Be a Better Parent Through the Toddler Years

Join Dr. Larry Wasser for a lighthearted discussion about the challenges presented to parents by the emerging autonomy of their toddler.  This discussion will include issues with feeding, sleeping, toilet training and discipline will be discussed.
