SBS: June 12

Today, US Army officers participating in the McConnell Center’s Strategic Broadening Seminar will begin their morning by considering the Korean Peninsula and Japan with Charles Ziegler, PhD, a political science professor and Distinguished University Scholar at UofL. In the afternoon, officers will hear from Jason Abbot, PhD, the director of UofL’s Center for Asian Democracy, on the US’s ‘tilt’ to Asia. Additionally, officers will continue their discussion of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations with Book VII.

Hosted by the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville, the Strategic Broadening Seminar is a four-week intensive program intended to enhance the strategic thinking and leadership potential of some of the nation’s rising young military leaders. Drawing on the expertise of top UofL faculty and guest speakers from around the nation, 31 military officers will consider major questions in philosophy, ethics and constitutionalism, as well as recent developments within the Pacific Asia region. UofL is one of only two universities invited to direct such a strategic broadening seminar for the US Army in 2014.
