Southard and Waters learned rubbing elbows with our nation’s leaders is not the only perk to interning in Sen. Mitch McConnell’s DC office as they escorted the University of Louisville men’s basketball team around the Capitol last Tuesday.

As Congressional interns and UofL students, Southard and Waters were offered the opportunity to accompany the team following their meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House.

“Leading the national champs to the Capitol while waving the UofL flag was an unforgettable experience,” Southard said.

Both Southard and Waters are McConnell Scholars at the University of Louisville.  Southard, an Owensboro, Ky.-native, is studying history a political science.  Waters, a native of Highland Heights, Ky., is studying political science, justice administration and classical languages.
