Anna Cecile Pepper, of Elizabethtown, Ky., has received the U.S. State Department's Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic abroad this summer. She will travel to the Middle East for 10 weeks to further her language skills.

"I'm so grateful for this opportunity and excited for the journey ahead," Pepper said.

Pepper is majoring in political science and economics with a minor in Middle Eastern studies at the University of Louisville. She is a former intern for the McConnell Center's Strategic Broadening Seminar for the U.S. Army.

Pepper is an active member of the UofL Honors Program, senator for the College of Arts & Sciences and member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
