Pres. Jim Ramsey is the first to receive one of 25 commemorative cups in honor of the Center's 25th anniversary.

The McConnell Center, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016, presented University of Louisville President James Ramsey with the first of 25 commemorative anniversary mint julip cups.

The award, presented at last week’s graduation ceremony for 30 U.S. Army soldiers participating in the Center’s month-long leadership development program, is a hand-blown glass cup designed by Louisville artist Brook White.

“President Ramsey, since 2002, has been a tireless supporter of the McConnell Center and programs like this for our military,” said Gary Gregg, director of the McConnell Center. “His leadership has been essential for us.”

Ramsey and his staff have helped welcome nearly 50 national and international speakers to campus as part of the Center's Distinguished Speaker Series.

Gregg said 24 other individuals will be recognized for their contributions at a commemorative anniversary event this fall.
