Dr. Thomas Mackey

Dr. Thomas Mackey, a University of Louisville history professor and McConnell Center Fellow, is one of several presenters at the "Pathways to Freedom: Kentucky and the Civil War Symposium" today and tomorrow.

The two-day scholar and community symposium focuses on the war in Kentucky as it and the nation struggled toward a new birth of freedom.

Mackey's presentation is entitled, "An Estimable Jewel: Why the Civil War Amendments Matter."

The symposium is sponsored by the University of Louisville College of Arts and Sciences and its Arts and Culture Partnership Initiative.

2011 marks the beginning of the sesquicentennial commemorating the Civil War.
