Jonathan Ballard, MD, is the 2013 winner of the Winter Griffith Scholarship for Excellence in Practice Improvement and Patient-Centered Care. Ballard, a McConnell Scholar alumnus (’04), earned the national scholarship from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine for demonstrating outstanding leadership and commitment to improving patient-centered care.

Ballard was formally recognized Nov. 22 for his achievements at the STFM Conference on Practice Improvement in San Diego, where he received the $1,000 scholarship and an award certificate.

“Jonathan always wanted to serve as a doctor,” said Gary Gregg, Director of the McConnell Center. “It’s an honor to watch the progress of his career not only as a talented doctor, but as a real leader making a difference for the quality of hospital administration and patient service."

A native of Bardstown, Ky., Ballard earned his MD from the University of Louisville and an MPhil in Epidemiology from Cambridge University. He is currently completing his medical residency at Dartmouth College.
