McConnell Scholars travel to Harvard to study 2016 election
After a divisive 2016 election, students from 28 institutions will gather from Feb. 3-5 in Cambridge, Ma. to identify the causes of divisiveness and develop ways to heal those divides.
The end goal of the conference is the development of a national, collaborative plan to “Reconnect America.”
The conference has taken place since 2003, and in recent years the McConnell Center has been able to send two students chosen through an application process.
“We believe the National Campaign is a unique medium for a diverse group of students who represent the many different facets of the Millennial generation to come together to gain valuable perspective and formulate actionable plans to reconnect a divided America,“ said 2017 National Campaign conference director Joe Kearns Goodwin.
Gassman is a junior from Louisville, Ky. majoring in political science, history, and Asian studies. Bencomo-Suarez, also from Louisville, is a political science major with a track in global affairs.
