Three McConnell Scholars travel to Panama

(June 12, 2017) LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Students received six credit hours for courses taken in the Central American country.

Colton Singer, Natasha Mundkur and Evan Clark traveled to Panama for three weeks this summer as a part of a cultural exchange program offered through the University of Louisville.

The Scholars traveled with 17 other students from the university and earned six credit hours related to their Latin American studies majors and minors.

“We traveled to Isla de Monos, directly meaning 'monkey island,' and we were able to see wild monkeys and walk through the rainforest during a downpour, which was truly an amazing experience. The program has been extraordinary, and I have loved speaking Spanish multiple times a day with the locals,” Clark said of the experience.

Clark, a native of Owensboro, Ky., said he chose the program because it would ideally help prepare him for a semester-long study abroad program in the future, in addition to expanding his Spanish language skills with like-minded UofL students.

Students explored the country, including trips to the Panama Canal, Gamboa Rainforest Resort and Casco Viejo, the historical area of Panama City.
