To commemorate that event, the University of Louisville’s McConnell Center will host a 90-minute public debate on Friday, Sept. 18, from 6-7:30 p.m. in Ekstrom Library’s Chao Auditorium. David Konig, PhD, and R.B. Bernstein, JD, will make the case that James Madison and John Adams, respectively, deserve the title of “MVP” of the American Founding.

The first 100 members in the audience will receive free copies of “America’s Forgotten Founders.” The event can also be watched live via the Center’s website beginning at 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 18. House and digital audiences can ask Konig and Bernstein questions and vote for their favorite founder by tweeting #TeamMadison and #TeamAdams to the Center’s Twitter account (@ULmCenter).

The Center will also host a “Constitution Birthday Bash” Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring “fun facts” and a quiz about signers of the Constitution, along with free pocket-size U.S. Constitutions and cupcakes. Voter registration will also be available through the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office. The event will be on the second floor of the west wing of the Swain Student Activities Center.

Constitution Day was created by Congress in 2004 upon urging from Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), to improve U.S. students’ understanding of the nation’s founding document.
