McConnell Center sponsors Kentucky Council for the Social Studies events
As part of its continuing mission to assist Kentucky citizens develop a better understanding of American history, the McConnell Center's Civic Education Program is proud to sponsor six lectures at the 2011 Kentucky Council for the Social Studies Conference.
Dr. Gary Gregg (director of the McConnell Center), Dr. Daniel Krebs (University of Louisville history professor) and Dr. Clarence Wyatt (Centre College history professor) will each lead two 50-minute sessions with Kentucky social studies teachers on Sept. 21. Lecture content will assist Kentucky public school teachers with changes in social studies curriculum and assessment at the high school level, Gregg said.
Gregg will also sign the latest McConnell Center publication, Hero Tales From American History, at the event.
McConnell Center-sponsored sessions include:
- 10:00-10:50 a.m. - English, Spanish, French Colonization (Krebs)
- 11:00-11:50 a.m. - American War of Independence (Krebs)
- 1:00-1:50 p.m. - George Washington (Gregg)
- 2:00-2:50 p.m. - Hero Tales From American History (Gregg)
- 2:00-2:50 p.m. - Using Pop Culture to Teach the 1950s (Wyatt)
- 2:50-3:30 p.m. - Book Signing (Gregg) - Hero Tales From American History
- 3:30-4:20 p.m. - Using Film & Media to Teach Vietnam (Wyatt)
