Meagan Floyd, a senior McConnell Scholar at the University of Louisville, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Award for 2013-2013, with a posting to Malaysia. Floyd will be an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) at a primary school.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or English Teaching Assistantships. During their grants, Fulbrighters meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others' viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.

Floyd is currently the vice-chair of the McConnell Scholars Program. She, along with fellow McConnell Scholar Michael Zeller, was awarded a $16,000 grant from the Freeman Foundation and associated ASIANetwork to finance a summer-long research project on the Chin refugee crisis in Malaysia.

Floyd, from Louisville, Ky., will graduate from UofL in May with a political science degree.
