This conference will consider the philosophical, political and economic issues surrounding the Cold War conflict. Teachers will explore these issues through a discussion of primary philosophical and economic texts, political speeches and foreign policy documents. Readings will also include John Lewis Gaddis' award-winning book, The Cold War: A New History.

Kentucky social studies teachers grades 5-12 are eligible to apply; limited to 15. Preference will be given to teachers who have not participated in a McConnell Center professional development opportunity. Extensive pre-reading required.

  • William Anthony Hay, PhD, is a history professor at Mississippi State. He specializes in British history and international relations since the 18th century.
