LOUISVILLE, KY – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 earlier this
year that a Christian student group that bars lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender members and their allies could not receive official
recognition and funding from a public law school. The McConnell Center welcomes a debate between Sam Marcossen, a professor of law at University of Louisville's Brandeis School of Law, and Bruce Frohnen, a professor at Ohio Northern University College of Law, on the merits of the recent landmark decision. The noon debate will be held Sept. 16 in room 275 of the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law (map). "These top legal experts will debate one of the most meaningful
recent Supreme Court cases involving religious liberty, freedom of
association and the rights of minorities. It's sure to be an exciting
debate," said Dr. Gary Gregg, director of The McConnell Center.
The case, Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, centered on the
Christian Legal Society at the University of California Hastings
College of Law and the group's refusal to grant membership to LGBT
individuals and their advocates.
Co-sponsored with The Federalist Society. Free and open to the public.
