MORE EXERCISES FOR PUBLIC SERVICE STUDENTS

1. The Site Index and the Public Service Dictionary
The Site Index provides information about library services and collections, phone numbers, maps of the libraries and hours of operation. It is linked at the bottom of the libraries' public web pages. The Public Service Dictionary gives information, policies and procedures that are useful for library staff. The online version is stored on the Libraries Intranet. To access it you need a computer account with the University of Louisville Libraries. When it requests your userid and password, use the same ones you use to boot up your computer workstation.Training exercise: Familiarize yourself with both of these resources. Using them as a reference, answer the questions on this exercise.

2. Referring Reference Questions
It is very important that patron question be handled efficiently and professionally. Our student assistants need to understand when a question is a basic question that they can answer and when it is a reference question which should be referred to a librarian.
