Adams History Room
- Joan Titley Adams History Room
- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library, 3rd floor
- The collection houses rare books and archival and historical medical
materials. The Administration Office Staff can help locate materials and answer
questions of an historical nature. Access to the History Collection is available
Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, unless other arrangements have
been made. These materials do not circulate without the approval of the Library
Director (852-5775).
ATM
- Cash machines are available for your convenience.
- Ekstrom Library: 1st floor lobby, two ATM machines with a $2 fee for non-member cash withdrawals.
- Problems concerning the ATMs should be reported to the Office of the Dean (Rm. 203, 852-6745) from 8am-5pm Mon-Fri, and to the circulation desk during evenings and weekends.
- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library: Near City Café, 1st floor near the library.
Audio Collections
- Ekstrom Library: Media Resources, 1st floor. Circulate for 3 days for faculty, staff, and grad students [limit 6]. This collection consists mainly of poetry, some read by the author.
- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library: Located on the East side of the 2nd floor. Circulate for 3 days.
- Music Library: 1st floor (in-house, 2-hour closed reserves). Consists of CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, videocassettes, audio cassettes, and vinyl LPs, to be used in listening or viewing carrels.
Bellarmine College
- A member of the Metroversity Libraries program which allows UofL faculty, staff and students to borrow materials from nine local local libraries.
Book Drops
- Libraries with Book Drops: Ekstrom, Kornhauser and Music Libraries.
- Kornhauser Library: located on Abraham Flexnor Way, behind the Kornhauser Library.
- Belknap Campus, North Information Center: Serving Ekstrom, Kersey and Music Libraries, this drop is on the east side of the drive by the Information Booth and library patrons can return materials from their cars.
Brandeis Collection
- Law Library: Handmaker Rare Books Room (Law Library, 2nd floor). The Law Library owns the most comprehensive collection of the papers of Justice Louis D. Brandeis, for whom the Law School is named. The collection is available to users by appointment. Non-circulating.
- University Archives & Records Center: Includes the historical records of Louis D. Brandeis' Boston law firm.
Cardinal Card
- Cardinal Cards (the official UofL ID) are required for printing from the computers and for using most photocopiers.
- Add money to a Cardinal card online at http://louisville.edu/campuscard/cardinalcash/ or at any value port. Visitors can also purchase a Cardinal card from any value port:

Distance Learning Library Services
- Ekstrom Library, 2nd floor north (next to the Delphi Center)
- Offers a wide range of services to students and faculty involved in UofL's distance education programs.
- The library maintains printed music, audio and video media, and as well as monographs and journals to support the curriculum of the School of Music.
Fax Service
- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library: available from the Interlibrary Loan area. Local faxes are free. Long distance faxes are charged to a credit or calling card

Foreign Language Tapes
- Ekstrom Library: Media Resources, 1st floor. Tapes and players are available.
Government Publications / Federal Government Depository
- Ekstrom Library: 2nd floor; 852-6747. The Government Publications collection is a selective depository of federal documents and has a collection of over 500,000 items (paper, microform, and electronic) including approximately 400 current journal titles. The department is divided into two areas - General Collection and Special Collections. Most of the collection is located on the 2nd floor, but reference materials are in the Reference Collection on the 1st floor. Questions should be directed to the Reference Desk (1st floor; 852-6747).
- Law: Basement. The Law Library's Government Publications section is a selective depository and contains approximately 80,000 items.
Grawemeyer Collection
- Music Library, 3rd floor; 852-5659.
- All compositions submitted to the Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition competition become the property of the University of Louisville and are deposited in an archival collection. The collection includes scores and recordings for over 1,200 entries, many of which are unpublished and unavailable elsewhere. This is a closed collection which can be seen by special appointment.

- The Hillerich & Bradsby Company Collection consists of over 4000 photographs and the papers of the H&B Public Relations Department.

Louisville Imprints
- Music Library.
- This collection consists of music published in Louisville as well as printed music composed by native Kentuckians is located in the Music Library. A printed catalog is available (Music Library Reference ML 136 .L69k6 1991.) More information concerning the collection can be found on the School of Music Web site.

Online Mediated Searches
- Ekstrom Library, Reference Dept: Searches on databases are provided by a librarian on a fee-based system. The fee is $20 per hour for University students, faculty and staff. Patrons may also conduct their research on databases accessible from the libraries' homepage and available CD-ROMS. 852-6747.
- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library: Searches on health-related topics are done on request for UofL students, faculty and staff. Fee-based searched are done for other health professionals and attorneys. 852-5771.

Patient Records, Former Louisville General Hospital

- Requestors must provide Medical Record Number when requesting a patient file. The index to the medical record numbers is at the University Hospital Medical Records Department. Former patients must give name and date of birth to secure record number.

Printing
- Printing from the computers costs 11 cents per page and requires a Cardinal Card (University ID) or a visitor's card.
- Color printing is available for $.30 per page. Prints must be sent from designated printers. Ask for assistance at the Ekstrom Library Reference Desk.
Proxy Borrowing for Faculty
- Faculty can grant a student or staff member the ability to check out materials in their name after a special form granting permission has been completed and submitted to the circulation desk of the participating library. The proxy will still need to have the faculty member's ID card.
Rare Books Collections
- The items in these collections cannot be checked out.
- Art Library: The Art Library's Rare Books Collection is a closed collection. Please see a staff member for an appointment. 852-6741
- Ekstrom Library: Lower Level. The Rare Books section of the Special Collections Department maintains collections of rare and valuable (historical) books. They host special exhibits of important parts of their collections in the Rare Book exhibit space. One of their most famous collections is the Edgar Rice Borroughs Tarzan collection. 852-6752
- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library: collection of the history of medicine, especially in the local area. Located in the Joan Titley Adams History Room on the 3rd floor at the top of the steps.
- Law Library: Handmaker Rare Books Room contains the Louis D. Brandeis Collection.
- Music Library: collection of rare music manuscripts located in Archive room.
Recital Tapings
- Music Library: All tapes available at 1st floor Circulation Desk for in-house listening. A fee schedule is available for cassette copies of recitals
Records Management Program

- The university's records management program, which deals with the retention and destruction of university records is administered by the University Archives & Records Center.
Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps
- Ekstrom Library: 2nd floor, Current Periodicals & Microforms. 852-6302.
- Produced for over a century, the Sanborn maps chart the growth and development of Kentucky cities from 1905-1992. They are large scale plans drawn to assist fire insurance companies as they assessed the risk associated with insuring a particular property. In addition to the outline of the buildings and out-buildings, the maps indicate building use and constructions materials. Also included are the owners names and types of items manufactured. Available on microfilm.
Scanner
- Art Library: This public scanner can be used to send color or black-and-white images to a disc (free) or to Miller IT CopyIT Center ($0.60-$1.20).
- Ekstrom Library, Learning commons: 1st floor. The scanner is available to UofL and Metro Lab patrons. The scanner includes character-recognition facility.
Slide Projectors
- Art Library: has 2 slide projectors which are kept in the Conference Room and can be used by patrons within the library. 852-6741

- The world's largest institutional collection of works by the creator of "Tarzan," including all appearances in print, posters, film and videotape, manuscripts and memorabilia. For more information, contact George McWhorter, the collection's curator at 852-8729.

Value Port
- Value ports are located throughout campus to conveniently allow patrons to add cash to their Cardinal Cash account. At a value port a customer can also check their Cardinal Cash balance and purchase visitor cards. Please follow machine instructions before adding cash to a value port. Value ports do not give change.

- All videos can be found in Minerva, the libraries' catalog.
- Art Library: Circulate for 3 days to faculty and Fine Arts grad students, otherwise non-circulating. Ask at service desk.

- Kornhauser Health Sciences Library: Some circulate for 3 days to U of L patrons. Others are on reserve and cannot leave the building. The circulating videos are located on the audiovisual stacks across from the circulation desk. Items on reserve are kept at the circulation desk. Equipment for use of these materials in the library is available on the upper floor and in group study rooms.
- Law Library: Any patron can check out a video for 4 hours, but the item must be viewed in the Media Room (basement of the Law Library). The videos are kept at the Circulation/Reference Desk in the Reserve area.
- Music Library: The 1st floor Listening Area contains pre-recorded CD, videocassette, audio cassette, and vinyl LP resources that may be reviewed at the listening carrels. DAT recordings of recitals are converted to cassettes that may be used as closed reserve items in the 1st floor Listening Area.
