Ruppart Flute Collection
The Ruppart Flute Collection consists of 547 pieces of chamber music written primarily between 1830-1930 that are for flute and piano as well as other chamber music combinations involving flute. The collection provides insight into the kind of music performed in domestic and salon settings—such as original compositions, potpourris based on operatic themes, etudes and methods, and arrangements of symphonic and operatic works by masters like Haydn, Verdi and Mozart—as well as how music was printed and published, and the names of composer/flutists that prolifically wrote music for their instrument. Most of this collection are the only copies available in the United States. They are housed in Archives and can be retrieved via request.
A Finding Aid (PDF) is available online or the collection can be browsed in the online catalog by doing a “call number browse” for RFC.
