NEJM Weighs in on Open Access to Scholarly Journals

— filed under:

Should the scholarly literature be freely available to all, thus expediting research, or will such availability undermine the viability of scholarly publications?  Is the traditional model of scholarly publication becoming obsolete?  Perhaps.  Efforts to enable open access to the scholarly literature are taking root.  Ann Wolpert, MLS, a librarian from MIT, provides background and perspective on the debate in her NEJM editorial (2/28/203).  Also available is a  debate on the topic between Dr. Martin Frank and Prof. Michael Carroll.
