Multicultural Children's Literature Collection
The Barbara S. Miller Collection is a collaboration between the University Libraries and the College of Education and Human Development. It provides valuable resources for those who want to use multicultural and diversity-related books in their teaching and research. The Miller Collection is supported through funds from the Libraries’ Jessie B.Crady endowment as well as other sources.
The collection enhances the teaching and research needs of faculty, administrators, and students in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education & Human Development. Books and other library materials are added which acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate differences in culture and it is maintained with a conviction that inclusiveness of these differences enriches and empowers the individual reader and learner. This collection supports the University’s goal to foster and sustain an environment that encourages us all to achieve our highest potential without fear of prejudice or bias.
These materials also encourage "education that is multicultural." They add to the University's commitment to building an exemplary educational community which offers a nurturing and challenging intellectual climate, a respect for the spectrum of human diversity, and a genuine understanding of the differences in people-including race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, and religion-that enrich a vibrant metropolitan research university.
