About UARCFeatured collection: Hubbard, Harlan and Anna Papers, 1903-1990 35.5 linear feet ![]() In 1946, artist, writer and philosopher Harlan Hubbard, together with his wife Anna, a former librarian, began traveling down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers on their homemade shanty boat. In 1952 they settled on seven acres on the Ohio River in Trimble County, Kentucky. Here they lived off the land, wrote about their lifestyle and Harlan produced art, primarily concerning boating and the river.
