Maggie Noffke:
Hi, I’m the advisor for LBST. I’ll address the questions I most often hear from students interested in becoming LBST majors.
Who majors in LBST? LBST is made up of academically qualified, highly motivated students for whom an interdisciplinary, undergraduate curriculum best serves their post-graduate ambitions.
What sort of careers do LBST majors go into? We have a lot of preprofessional
students, such as pre-law, pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-expressive therapies and communicative disorders, and future teachers and librarians. Although the list extends beyond this, some of our majors design programs in international studies, environmental sciences, bioethics, professional military careers, and community development. Basically, if the student can dream it, we can build it.
What are the eligibility requirements? First, these students must be able to identify a interdisciplinary goal. Qualified, prospective majors must have a minimum 2.75 gpa and a minimum of 45 earned at the college level (or be completing the 45th hour when they apply).
Graduating majors often express gratitude for the admission process. It is intensive, but it helps you clarify what you want to do and why, and how you want to live your life beyond the B.A.
