As part of the Cultural Center's monthly celebration of the diversity in our community, the Office for LGBT Services is hosting a reception, photo exhibit, and live performance honoring Transgender Day of Remembrance. The event is part of a citywide celebration hosted in part by the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary's Womens Center, Sienna, the Transgender Education Center, and Transformations.
The event will feature photographs by Mari Mujica and Rogelio Pereda from their larger exhibit "Transgender Lives, Transgender Images." Mujica and Pereda have recently documented the experiences of transgender people through photography and by transcribing their stories.
The Trans Theatre Project will also perform during the evening. Transgender people in the local community will read personal stories they have written, all intended to illuminate their experiences and provide insight into the transgender community.
A community reception will conclude the evening, hosted by Sienna and the university's Office for LGBT Services. Members of the student organization, Transformations, will also be on hand to answer questions and share their experiences.
