LGBT Services Welcomes Two New Staff Members
The Office for LGBT Services has hired two new staff members to assist students, plan activities, and promote a welcoming campus environment in 2011. Both are students at the University of Louisville and bring with them a wealth of experience and a pas
sion for social justice.
Candace Lamb is the newly-hired graduate assistant for the office. A student in the College Student Personnel program, Candace is planning a career serving underrepresented college students in their personal and academic work. She comes to the university from an undergraduate career at the University of South Carolina and Greenville Technical College. At USC she was active in the LGBT student organization, PRIDE, and helped coordinate special events and Safe Zone trainings. She has a strong interest in career counseling and human resources that she hopes to draw upon in addressing inequities in employment for LGBT people.
Candace is looking forward to her new assignment. "I feel incredibly honored to be the Graduate Assistant for the Office for LGBT Services! I feel very passionate about LGBT issues and experiences and look forward to helping the Office for LGBT Services grow. I know this is going to be a great semester."
Meghan Lampe is the new volunteer/event coordinator for the office. Meghan is an undergraduate student majoring in Women's and Gender Studies, and has been actively involved in commonGround since coming to U of L. As a student at Butler High School, Meghan helped start a gay/straight alliance and participated in the Lou
isville Youth Group, where her interest in activism was born.
Meghan's plans for her work in the office include helping students overcome anti-gay bullying and harassment. "With this wonderful opportunity, I hope to be able to educate others on issues that are so deeply important to the LGBT community. During my time at U of L, LGBT Services has served as a kind of family for me and many other students. The Office For LGBT Services has helped me many times in the past and I am very happy to now have the chance to help others by being a part of the amazing LGBT Services team."
Candace and Meghan both begin working in the office in January 2011. Welcome to both!
