  • Watching online modules and completing an online assessment. There are 14 modules from previous years available for viewing (link below under Online Modules). The 2017-2018 in-person modules will also be posted online.

Patient Simulation Session are 2 hours each. Patient Simulation Sessions are in-person and offered in both the Fall Term or Spring Terms (dates below).

In-Person Content Modules

  • October 31, 2017: Meeting the Needs of LGBT Older Adults

  • February 16, 2018: Enhancing Substance Use Disorder Treatment Responsiveness for LGBT Clients
    • 9-10am lecture; (lecture portion will count towards the Certificate)
    • 10-11:30am workshop
    • Location: Kornhauser Auditorium (500 S. Preston St)
    • Dr. Brian Hurley, M.D., M.B.A., DFASAM
    • This session is the part of the Humana Summit on LGBT Health. This training (facilitated by Dr. Brian Hurley) will review best practices to engage and retain LGBT clients in substance use disorder (SUD) care. While the core approach to addiction treatment does not change based on an individual's sexual orientation and gender identity, there are key opportunities to signal openness to current and prospective clients, employ client-centered approaches to SUD care, and build alliances with LGBT community organizations. This session will begin with a one-hour lecture to provide an overview of the topic and examples from the field. The second part of the workshop will be an interactive discussion with fellow professionals and Dr. Hurley to address the implication of the didactic material to their treatment settings.
