The Alternative Winter Break Program has quickly become a very popular international service learning opportunity for students at The University of Louisville.  In December 2010, 11 students had the experience of a lifetime, visiting such sites as the Golden Temple and Taj Mahal, while also providing healthcare to nearly 1500 rural villagers.  Dispatches from India details some of the thoughts and feelings that stirred through these students. 

Since then the trip has continued every December.  Students leave and return in time to spend Christmas with their loved ones.  The cost of the trip is $4,000 per student, which includes airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals, and tour fees.  This application will be available throughout the summer, and will close on August 31^st, 2012.  The second round of the application process will include an interview, and students will be notified soon after that, regarding their acceptance for this trip.
