Professor Powell’s speech marks 50th anniversary celebration of Voting Rights Act

Professor Cedric Merlin Powell was a speaker at the NAACP’s 50th anniversary celebration of the Voting Rights Act last week. The Louisville branch of the NAACP commemorated the anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by also announcing a “plan of action” to encourage people to vote in November.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Powell called voting a “fundamental right in our American political system” and “a key to meaningful participation” in it.
