Professor Cedric Merlin Powell served as a principal commentator at the 10th annual John Mercer Langston Writing Workshop, held at Howard University School of Law in July 2019.

The workshop is named after Howard's founding dean, John Mercer Langston. African-American male law professors, faculty candidates and attorneys attend this annual workshop to share papers and discuss issues in the academy.

Powell, along with a colleague, offered the primary critique for one of the papers. Powell, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs Professor of Law, has written over a broad range of topics including affirmative action and Critical Race Theory, the First Amendment and hate speech, and the Fourteenth Amendment and structural inequality.
